Sport Weight

Hi all. I just joined the KAL today. Last night I cast on using Blue Sky Alpaca 100% Alpaca sportweight. Has anyone else knit this shawl with a sport weight yarn? If so how many skeins did you use? I think I must be insane because this is a navy yarn and the stitches are so hard to see. But, I had this yarn in the stash just begging to be knit and I had the urge to knit a shawl. I've looked through the pictures of some of the finished shawls and they are all so pretty.

I don't think anyone has tried.. The last time I knitted a shawl with a thin 8-ply (its 8 ply but kinda thinner than most 8 ply) I used less than 380m/415yd.. and thats a normal sized shawl. Hope that helps..

I think you'll be fine. What size needles are you using?

Jeri, I'm using size 7US which seems to be right for this yarn. The stitches are loose enough to give that nice lace effect without the solid portions being too loose. I have 440yd of the yarn and will see how far this takes me. I'm now on the fourth repeat of budding lace 2 chart. This project is how I'm working up to actual lace weight, which I've never used before.
